Blocks are voxel objects in Colony Survival. They are placed in the world and can be interacted with. Blocks that are harvested will generally appear in the players "hotbar," unless the player's hotbar is full. In this case the block will move to the stockpile, and stack nearly infinitely in it.

Essential Blocks[]

Bed[]

Crafted from 6 planks, make sure to stock up on these! You need one bed for every colonist you wish to recruit. They are two blocks long by one block wide and can be placed directly against each other. Colonists will move through beds, allowing you to create a solid block of beds for maximum sleeping efficiency.

Dark Stone[]

Found between the layers of stone and the bottom of the world, dark stone makes up much of the underground portion of the world. Miners can be placed on dark stone, and will infinitely generate stone rubble until you remove their job or the colonist dies. The player can destroy dark stone, and it will be collected as stone rubble. Ores can be found at various levels in the dark stone, and miners will mine ores infinitely when placed on top of them.

Primary Layer[]

Near the surface of the dark stone, 15 blocks down from grass level, copper and clay can be found. Placing a miner on them will harvest infinite amounts of the resource, or the player can destroy it with their hands to yield one resource and remove the block.

Secondary Layer[]

The next level of ores is found 6-7 blocks deeper. This layer contains iron and gypsum. As with other ores, miners can be placed on top of them to harvest them infinitely. The player can destroy them to remove them and yield one resource.

Tertiary Layer[]

After digging down a few more blocks, the player will find the third layer of ores. This layer will generate gold and coal, both very useful in late game projects. As with other ores, the player can destroy them and yield one resource, or miners can be placed on them to harvest infinite resources.

Bottom Layer[]

Finally, after digging down yet another few blocks deeper, the player encounters the last layer of ores. This layer will spawn galena and saltpeter. Galena especially is a valued resource, as it comes with "richness" of different resources such as "lead-rich galena" and "silver-rich galena." These can respectively be mined infinitely for the ore they are rich in. This is the final layer of dark stone, and there is nothing to be yielded by digging any deeper.

Utility Blocks[]

Bloomery[]

The bloomery is a functional block which allows you to smelt iron ingots from iron ore, lead ingots from lead-rich galena, and silver + crystal (yes, those both come out of the same recipe) from silver-rich galena.

Bronze Anvil[]

The bronze anvil is an improved workbench, primarily allowing you to build higher grade weapons than slings and sling bullets. Notably, it is also where you craft lanterns and steel parts.

Dyer's Table[]

When supplied with the correct materials, the dyer will take blocks and change their color. Planks, bricks and stone can all be changed in the dyer's table, as well as lanterns and carpets.

Furnace[]

Can be used to smelt metals bronze which is very important to early-game gameplay, and bricks, because it is a Dutch game.

Grindstone[]

Is used to convert wheat to flour, as part of the bread-making process.

Gunsmith's Shop[]

Used to create gunpowder, lead bullets and matchlock pistols, all used for the final tier of guards.

Kiln[]

Used to create charcoal and cokes, used in later-game gameplay to smelt gold, iron and steel.

Mint[]

Used to produce coins of various values, each used in the shop to buy things such as grass, dirt or cherry blossom saplings.

Oven[]

Bakes flour into bread as part of the bread-making process

Science Lab[]

Provides a colonist access to do research. Without one of these, you can't do research, meaning you can't progress through the game as fast as you could with one of these.

Shop[]

Allows you to sell coins made at the mint for various small items, such as grass, sand and cherry blossom saplings

Splitting Stump[]

Creates firewood very quickly and allows you to create some variants of the quarter block.

Stonemason's Workbench[]

Allows you to change the look of many of your resources, and create more variants of the quarter block.

Tailor Shop[]

Allows you to produce carpets, linen pouches to store gunpowder, and linen bags to craft research bags.

Technologist's Table[]

Uses linen bags to create research bags.

Tinkerer's Table[]

Provides most elementary crafting recipes and automation for them.

Finery Forge[]

Used to create gold and steel ingots using cokes and charcoal.

Crate[]

A very important block to have. Colonists deliver to these, and if they can't find one they deliver to the banner, which can be inefficient or even have a negative effect in large and mega colonies

Basic Blocks[]

Adobe[]

Referred to as "rich man's dirt," this block is quite literally just dirt with more expensive items crafted into it. It serves no purpose beyond aesthetics.

Bricks[]

Standard bricks are created in the furnace, and have a dull color to them. They can then be taken to the stonemason and altered to become several different colors, including a more rich red color. Different designs of brick are pretty much pointless, unless you are researching diggers or builders.

Carpet[]

White carpet is created by the tailor, which you must unlock via research through the scientist. White carpets can be combined with dyes to create various other colors of carpets. They serve no purpose beyond aesthetics.

Cobblestone[]

Cobblestone can be created by the stonemason in several colors, just like bricks. Unlike bricks, the red color is only attainable through combining it with hollyhock. Different designs of stone are purely aesthetic and serve no further function.

Dirt[]

Tooltip: "It's dirty." Dirt is found just below grass on almost all surfaces of the world, except for those covered by sand. Dirt is usually 4 blocks deep and begins immediately under the one block layer of grass. Dirt is required for wheat farms, however grass can also be used (Using the wheat farmer tool on grass will convert it to dirt).

Grass[]

Grass is the green textured block on the top layer of every surface of the world except for in Tundra biomes, Oceans and beaches. Grass is one layer thick and does not replenish itself, but is harvested as a full grass block and can be replaced anywhere.

Iron Block[]

It looks sturdy and it is used in creating finery forges, but beyond that it is purely aesthetic.

Lantern[]

Lanterns must be researched by a scientist. Then they are created in the bronze anvil, by a metalsmith. They require a variety of expensive resources, but provide a unique touch to your lighting that is exclusive to this block. Additionally, lanterns can be taken to a dyer's table to paint them in unique colors. The color of light given off is changed accordingly when dye is applied to the lanterns.

Logs[]

Logs are harvested from destroying trees, and are used in many crafting recipes, especially for creating planks. They can be built with and are found anywhere in the world where trees are found. Destroying all of the logs within a tree will cause all of the leaves touching it to disappear, with the exception of leaves touching another tree (in dense forests leaves may take a long while to disappear, as other trees are touching the leaves and causing them to not despawn.)

Leaves[]

Leaves sometimes drop from destroying trees, and can be placed as any other block. They exist mostly for aesthetic.

Planks[]

Crafted from logs, planks are a general building material and a key in many recipes. They can be taken to the dyer's table and dyed into various colours to fit your colony's theme.

Sand[]

Sand is found on beaches and under bodies of water. It takes the place of both grass and dirt in layers of depth.

Snow[]

A purely aesthetic block, found very far north.

Straw[]

Yielded from wheat farming, straw is an essential component in making beds.

Stone[]

Stone is found usually between 5 and 8 blocks under grass or sand. Stone is gray in color and takes longer to mine than the other three materials. Stone can be used to craft some basic things, including sling bullets which are very useful for early-game guards. This material is also necessary for crafting workstations such as an oven, or a grindstone. Once harvested, stone turns into stone bricks. The player can convert these into different designs using a stonemason, unlocked later in the game through research (See: Scientist)

Stone Bricks[]

Stone bricks are yielded from destroying stone or dark stone. They are a building material, and a crafting material in many recipes.

Torch[]

Gives of lots of light. To enable the player-carried torch, press "g" to illuminate the area around you.

Water[]

The cursed block. Handle very carefully. Water in the game flows infinitely. This means that if you have an underground base and allow any water inside, your entire base will flood. Additionally, spawning in water and placing it at an elevation above sea level can yield potentially game breaking flooding of your world. Admire it from a distance and treat it with great caution. Always back up your save before placing a block of this down (Note: you must cheat to acquire water, otherwise it only exists in natural bodies of water and you can't pick it up. You can, however, dig moats or channels and open them to water to have water flow down them.)
